Careers in Motion: Trades in Action

We are very excited to share a wonderful opportunity that staff have been hard at work planning for students in Grades 9 and 10. During Periods 1 and 2 on February 10th, all students in Grades 9 and 10 will participate in Careers in Motion: Trades in Action.  The event serves as an experiential career exploration platform that allows Grade 9 and 10 students to engage in hands-on activities to demystify the skilled trades and identify personal career interests. By connecting directly to the mandatory Technological Education and Career Studies curricula, the fair demonstrates the real-world application of STEM and the safety protocols essential for modern industry. Ultimately, the event clarifies apprenticeship pathways and OYAP opportunities, empowering students to make informed secondary school course selections that align with high-demand workforce needs. TAS1O / TAS2O (Technology and the Skilled Trades): The hands-on activities directly mirror the “Learning by Doing” pillar of these courses. GLC20 (Career Studies) Pathway Planning: It introduces students to the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP), which allows them to start an apprenticeship while still in high school. We are pleased to welcome the following guests who are supporting the event:

  • Ted Darling, College of Carpenters
  • Thanusan Parameswaran,  Milwaukee Tool- TECHTRONIC INDUSTRIES CANADA
  • Ellie Zhang,  HiMark OSTC
  • Indira Singh,  Centennial College
  • Justine Kaldeway,  Sheridan College
  • Antonio Sergi,  Skilled Trades Ontario
