A huge congratulations goes out to the SBA Jr. Boys basketball team who ended a decade-long title drought by beating rival Vaughan SS for the York Region Athletic Association Championship on February 27, 2019.
Starting the program in October, often practicing mornings and night, coaches Anthony Atletico, Adrian Cerzosimo, and Blake Cunningham pushed our character group of undersized, yet hard-working boys through the long season’s ups and downs.
The victory was memorable as it punctuated a season where the boys went 7-1 in league play; fittingly losing only their last regular season game in dramatic fashion to Vaughan. With the taste of defeat still in their mouths, the Cardinals were able to out-match a talented Vaughan squad in an anticipated final at Sutton DH. An impenetrable defence and efficient offence, led by Tyrone Cunningham (Finals MVP), Adrian Uchidiuno (most points), and Brian Antonroy, lifted the boys to a decisive 66-50 win. Congratulations to the St. Brother Andre Jr. Boys basketball team on a remarkable season and bringing the 2018-19 YRAA Championship home.
