Monday, October 21, 2024, will be a P.A. Day in York Catholic District School Board (YCDSB) elementary and secondary schools.
In accordance with the Ministry of Education’s Regulation 304, “School Year Calendar, Professional Activity Days,” the YCDSB is providing the following summary of staff activities for the P.A. Day on Monday, October 21, 2024.
Morning Session: School staff will participate in School Improvement Planning, reviewing a variety of data sources such as EQAO results, report card data and other key indicators to set goals for student success this school year. In addition to this planning, the session will include a dedicated focus on literacy for staff in grades 3 to 8, as well as the use of early reading screeners for teachers in grades K to 2. There will also be training for elementary itinerant staff, specifically Music, Core French and Physical Education teachers.
Afternoon Sessions: Staff will complete online modules covering various prevalent medical conditions, such as concussion, diabetes, seizures, life-threatening allergies and asthma. These training modules will continue to support and monitor the health and safety of all our students and staff.
Behavioural Resource Services (BRS)/Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) will deliver board-wide Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) certification training to education workers and educators.
Student services (BRS and Mental Health Services) staff will also facilitate a module for educators entitled: “Enhancing Mental Health Literacy and Building a Vape-Free Environment.” Educators will build awareness about the contents of the new mental health literacy modules from the Ministry of Education along with real-world strategies and brief contact intervention skills to apply in their interactions with youth who vape. Upon completion of this module, educators will have learned how they can support students to use stress management strategies and build knowledge about supports at school, in the community and online and how to help students access the support should they need it.
